Naturacem, Grenohware and Safari Gas set to attend ClimateLaunchpad Global Grand Final in Scotland

Malaysia, 27 August 2018 - Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) hosted Malaysia's first ever ClimateLaunchpad national finals which saw nine (9) startups going head-to-head to pitch for a fully-paid three-night (3) stay spot at the Global Grand Final in Scotland which will take place from 1 - 2 November 2018. ClimateLaunchpad Malaysia is an inaugural initiative aimed at cultivating innovative green and sustainable business ideas in Malaysia. Launched by MaGIC, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (MGTC) and ClimateLaunchpad, the world's largest and smartest green business ideas competition, the programme seeks to find and foster the best green or eco-business ideas and help build these ideas into commercially-viable and scalable businesses. ClimateLaunchpad is part of the entrepreneurship offerings of EIT Climate-KIC. Climate-KIC is supported by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. With a shared mission to unlock the potential of green ideas, the three partners have come together in this initiative to help push the green agenda in Malaysia, raise awareness and encourage more startups to focus their solutions on pressing issues such as reducing carbon emissions or plastic consumption. Over the past 6 weeks, participants were put through specially tailored coaching sessions, deep diving into core topics of Customer Value Proposition, Market, Product, Financials, Climate Impact, Competitive Advantage and Pitching. Further, participants were also taken through discussions on business model development, Peer-2-Peer learning, and Entrepreneurs' shared experiences, after completing a two-day bootcamp. The demo day kicked off with a welcome note from Ashran Dato' Ghazi, Chief Executive Officer of MaGIC and opening remarks from Dr Mohd Azman Zainul Abidin, CEO of GreenTech Malaysia. The panel of judges included Tuan Syed Ahmad Syed Mustafa, Chief Operating Officer of GreenTech Malaysia, Zafuan Kassim, founder of Low Carbon Solutions and Aditya Tuli, Executive Director at MaGIC. Ashran Dato' Ghazi, Chief Executive Officer of MaGIC, said: "The innovative ideas pitched today is evidence that there are Malaysians out there who have high-potential groundbreaking solutions to address today's environmental existing pain-points in a sustainable and ecological way. Out of which, 15 were selected into ClimateLaunchpad Malaysia to gain industry insights and expertise to grow their business, develop crucial skills, and build relationships with key industry players.The winners are:1st place: Naturacem - An idea for eco-friendly cement that is cost efficient and reduces carbon footprint.2nd place: Grenohware - A startup that turns agricultural waste (oil palm fronds) into 100% compostable cutlery and food packaging.3rd place: Safari Gas - Uses eco friendly materials to produce Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinders.The three (3) winners were selected based on six (6) criteria: 1. Business or Market Potential, 2. Job Potential or Social Impact, 3. Innovation or Technology Potential, 4. Climate Impact, 5. Strength Management Team and 6. Quality of Pitch. The winners selected today will be in Scotland to pitch their solution for a chance at a direct access to the Climate-KIC accelerator worth �95,000 investment in-kind.Among the innovative solutions pitched during the national final include: EPC Blockchain- Leverage on the benefits of blockchain to keep track of energy savings and energy generation projects to enable the aggregated monetization of carbon credits. Batik Treatment System- Provides efficient and economical treatment for batik textile wastewater containing high levels of silicate and organic pollutants using a 3-step treatment process. Freeceipts- A blockchain solution that eliminates the usage of paper receipts.Projek30- An innovative solution that uses IoT And Big Data Analytics to reduce food waste.
