[MaGIC Webinar] Introduction to MaGIC-MBAN Angel Series

Startups and angel investors tend to approach investments from opposing perspectives.

In partnership with the Malaysian Business Angel Network (MBAN), this webinar is an introduction to the Angel Series specially designed to bridge the gaps between investors’ requirements and Startups’ expectations to enable more early-stage investments. The series will cover multiple topics in angel investment such as business model pivots, corporate angel investors, impact investment, negotiating term sheets and beyond.

The series will focus on highlighting and discussing real, relevant, relatable examples of angel investments in Malaysia and regionally to develop investor and startup understanding of these topics in a local context.

Dr Melissa Foo

Dr Melissa Foo is a global investor and portfolio manager; with a focus on impact investment ecosystem development and innovation. In 2013, she was based in New York to work on multiple early-stage deals in FinTech, Healthcare, Education, B2B, Real Estate Technology and Social Enterprise. She has also consulted for the Malaysian government on Ventures and Corporate Entrepreneurship (Ministry of Finance) and Social Innovation (Prime Minister’s Department - National Innovation Agency). Melissa received an MBA from Columbia Business School with a dual-concentration in Family Enterprise Management & Impact Investing. Additionally, she also serves on the board of her family healthcare company based in Malaysia. Prior to that, she obtained dental qualifications from the University of Melbourne and was attached to the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Hospital Sungai Buloh, specialising in trauma and facial reconstruction. When she is not identifying the next big thing in impact and innovation, she is passionate about travel, meeting people, making connections and giving. Her philanthropic work with the family organisation serves underprivileged communities across Southeast Asia.
