Fundamentals of Design Thinking for Startups - Beginner Level (October)

If you are a startup who are looking to strengthen your product/service offerings and understand your user better, don’t miss the opportunity to signup for these courses!Session Summary Since a couple of years ago, the concept of Design Thinking (DT) has started making its presence in the corporate as well as entrepreneurship circles in Malaysia.The term ‘Design’ in 'Design Thinking' creates the assumption that it is the exclusive domain for designer only but in actual fact, intuitively, all great innovators in literature, art, music, science, engineering, and business have used it in one way or another.DT takes inspiration from designers’ work processes. The processes help us to systematically extract, teach, learn and apply human-centered techniques to solve problems in creative and innovative ways. This allows us to use it universally, in all our designs for solutions for social, business, communities and even in our lives.World leading brands, such as Apple, Google and Samsung have adopted DT into their work processes; especially in innovating their products and services to meet the market’s dynamic demands.Startups can benefit from DT for identifying new business opportunities and validating existing opportunities. The principles of DT is also aligned with the entrepreneurial spirit of innovating and providing solutions.Join this one-day introductory session to help you appreciate what is DT and be familiar with the fundamental tools & techniques used by a design thinker. Participants will be able to take the DT process for a test drive and truly appreciate how it works.What Will You Learn? 5W & 1H of Design ThinkingParticipants will have basic understandings and distinction of what is DT, how to apply DT and the field of applications especially for startups. The Design Thinker MindParticipants will embrace the mindset of a Design Thinker and have a full appreciation of how DT increase the value of their product and services. Phases in Design Thinking ProcessParticipants will understand and appreciate the process of design thinking and how to conduct each phase. Idea Web: Design Challenge Statement GenerationParticipants will learn how to generate an effective and impactful Design Challenge Statement; the heart of any DT project. Idea Studio: Applied Design ThinkingParticipants will apply the phases of DT process and get real-time coaching along the way. The simulation will be connected to the startups' scenarios. Real-Time CoachingParticipants will have the opportunity to hone and sharpen their DT application with personal support of highly experienced DT facilitating coaches. The coaches are also entrepreneurs who are or have an experience of being a startup. Self Discovery AssignmentParticipants will do a self-exploration exercise that will prepare them to learn more effectively during the workshop. This self-discovery will guide the facilitators to re-design and personalise learning that fit the needs of individual participants. This will be in the form of an email assignment sent a week before the workshop and to be submitted in at least two days before the workshop. Well Being CheckBetween 7-10 days of the workshop, participants will receive an email to find out about what they have implemented at their workplace. Guided Reflective PracticeParticipants will have the opportunity to reflect and learn more from their daily life, on the job practices after they attended the workshop.
